I saw an advertisement for “I’m A Scientist” on Twitter, and wanted to be a part because science education outreach is very important to me. I’ve always gone to classrooms, libraries, etc. and shared fossil casts with students and people of all ages. When I lived in Iowa, each year, I used to bring fossil human casts to the State Fair; I also did cave paintings as face painting and had a baby pool full of crumbed rubber, plastic bones, and candy for people to dig for!

Since I’ve just moved to South Africa, I had to give away most of my fossil casts (I donated them to a school in Dallas, TX), so I need to get new ones. I also want to do something that is unique to Africa, and I think that teaching students here about the evolution that took place exactly where they live now is a great way. My hope is that I can then help these kids to teach students around the world by filming lessons for a YouTube channel.

So, basically, I wanted to be a contestant so that I could spread the excitement of science and help others to do the same!

Imagine that someone found a cure for cancer. But that person never told anyone. No one knew. People would keep dying just like before. Science is useless if you don’t communicate it. Often the best scientists who are not the ones who come up with the best experiments, they are the ones that are best able to communicate.
I wanted to get better at communicating my research. The only way to get better is to practice.
Also, a lot of people inspired me to go into science. I cant pay them back, but i can pay it forward by inspiring other people.

I wanted to be a constestant to meet people just like you all, and hope that I can answer all possible questions about science, bats, and everything in between.
