When I first heard about I’m A Scientist from a good friend of mine, it was the day before the deadline, and I had absolutely, 100% no idea what to expect. I wasn’t even totally clear on what I was signing up for, or how much time I was going to have to set aside for it! But I cannot imagine a better use of my time the last two weeks than interacting with my fellow scientists and the amazing students that whole time.
First, huge shout outs to all the other bat fans around. I never knew so many people loved bats past Batman, which is great news for all our flying friends in the world! Second, I am so thrilled and honored to have won against such amazing competition. All four of the scientists I was up against do some incredible research and work, and I’ll be following them closely on all sorts of social media as time goes on.
I’ve always loved spreading my love of science and the natural world to as many people as possible, and this whole experience has only solidified that desire. It’s always music to my ears when I hear about young students wanting to be scientists, though I have to say this is the first time I’ve heard them specifically say they want to study bats! But who am I to complain?
