Sadly, I’ve only climbed Mt. Monadnock (I was a counselor at a girls’ horsemanship camp in Chesterfield, NH called Road’s End Farm, and we used to take the girls for hiking trips up the “mountain”). I haven’t had to climb any mountains for my research—YET!

I actually am a BIG armchair high-altitude Himalayan climber (that is, I read a LOT about climbing Everest and K2, in particular). I even named one of my cats Himmaleh in honor of the mountains! I’ve been interested in Everest ever since I saw an IMAX movie with climber David Breashears and then read “Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer about the 1996 disaster that claimed eight lives.

I would give anything to go to even Everest Base Camp! I’ve been following a lot of the stuff that’s been going on there recently in terms of the Sherpa strike and even the recent 7.8 earthquake that lowered it by a whole inch!

Are you a mountain enthusiast? Ever climbed any or have plans to? (I want to climb Mt. Kilamanjaro soon!)
